SPORTING ARENA

Eileen was 7 when she first represented Singapore as an athlete,  and remained the youngest competitor in the history (regional) to have competed at the SEA Games (Singapore Book of Records).

At 9, she began her training in China as a gymnast, and a year later, she won her first gold medal (after a 10-year drought of medals in gymnastics) in an overseas competition. After much physical injuries, she clinched the bronze medal at the SEA Games at age 13. Eileen left for a different sport and began training on the tracks and as well as taking up diving.

At 15, she broke the National Age-Group 100-m Hurdles Record; two years later, she won gold at the Asia Pacific Diving Championship, and was placed 4th behind the China and Japan diving powerhouses at the Asian Cup Diving Championships; and at the age of 27, she broke the National 100-m Hurdles Record (Heather Merican’s) that was unbroken for 30 years.  

A recipient of the Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award and Singapore Olympic Academy Roll of Honour, she was also an athletics Coach (International Association of Athletics Federation, IAAF); Teacher & Mentor (Ministry of Education, MOE); International Technical Official (International Swimming Federation, FINA); Judge (International Gymnastics Federation, FIG); Sports Performance Manager; and Venue & Events Manager (Singapore Youth Olympic Games & ESPN Stars Sports , now Fox Sports).
